| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
| What is VIDITalk? |
| VIDITalk is a powerful, cost effective, easily implemented solution to improve communications. It enables users to easily create and send high-quality personal video messages (VIDIs) from their computer to recipients on high-speed or dial-up connections. VIDI messages can also be streamed to cell phones and other wireless devices. |
| How does it work? |
| The user creates a video message on their computer where it is automatically compressed, encoded, and sent to the hosting server. The VIDITalk server returns a hyperlink to the creator for placement into email, instant messages or any electronic document. Recipients click on the link and view the streamed video message in a customized playback screen using Microsoft Windows Media Player. |
| What is streaming video? |
| Streaming video refers to video content that is transmitted in a continuous stream. This allows users to view the video as it is received and are generally smaller in file size that affords a faster overall download time. Streaming eliminates the need for downloads (which may contain viruses) and attachments (which may be too large for your in-box). |
| What is the recommended bandwidth for VIDITalk? |
| VIDITalk was designed for use with a broadband connection for full-motion video and audio streaming; however, there are not any software limitations with using a dial-up connection. When using a dial-up connection to send, the user will notice a longer file upload period. The messages can be viewed by recipients on either high-speed or dial-up connections. If the recipient uses a dial-up service to receive the VIDI messages they will be viewing the message in a smaller format. |
| Can VIDITalk messages be created offline? |
| VIDITalk Pro software offers video capture and playback capabilities without being online. The VIDITalk online service requires that the user be online in order to create and send messages. |
| What type of camera can be used? |
| VIDITalk is designed to work with most web cameras. We recommend purchasing a camera that captures video at 30fps (frames per second) in order to create high-quality messages. |
| Is a microphone required? |
| A microphone is required for recording your voice with the video capture. The microphone can be internal to the camera, internal to the laptop, or externally plugged into the sound card or USB port. |
| What is required to play back the video? |
| To view the VIDI message, a recipient will need an Internet connection, web browser and a streaming media player. VIDITalk streaming video message are delivered through a hyperlink. When the recipient opens an email, the recipient simply clicks on the hyperlink. There are no attachments or downloads. The message instantly opens to Windows Media Player and begins to play. If the recipient does not have Windows Media Player, they can download it for free from Microsoft.com |
| Can a video message be delivered anywhere in the world? |
| Yes. We recommend that the message be dual encoded to ensure that the user can view the video at a lower speed as not all counties have a high-availability of broadband. |
| Can VIDITalk messages be created by all operating systems? |
| Today, VIDITalk cannot be created by Macintosh or Linux users. However, Macintosh and Linux users can view the messages if they have a version of Windows Media Player on their computer. |
| How long is the average message? |
| The average VIDITalk message is less than one minute. Personal plans have a 2 minute recording time limit and Business plans have a 10 minute recording time limit. |
| How do I know what plan would be suitable for my needs? |
VIDITalk offers various plans to meet your needs. For example, the Individual plan would allow for 20 one minute messages to be stored at one time as one minute of video is approximately 1MB. The user could create as many messages as they would like by deleting messages that would no longer be viewed. Messages under this plan have a 200 MB streaming allowance. Using the 1 MB per minute guideline, a single message can be viewed up to 200 times each month. The Family plan allows three users to share a single account and provides larger storage and streaming capacity.
If the intent for VIDITalk would be to broadcast messages to a large number of recipients, then a business plan might be a better choice. It offers longer recording time, greater storage and much more monthly streaming capacity.
